Videos for Change empowers young people from Years 7-12 to become agents of social change. It is a real world, student-led, project-based learning experience in which students create one-minute videos to raise awareness of social issues they feel passionate about.
Through this activity, students can develop the critical global competencies needed to be active, responsible and engaged citizens. These include: collaboration, creative thinking, critical thinking, civic engagement, communication and collective action.
Videos for Change can be delivered as a unit of work or used as an assessment item across multiple subject areas. It can be aligned with the Australian Curriculum of English, HASS and Media or embedded as part of a wellbeing program.
The below PowerPoint presentations can be downloaded separately and include:
Participants in Videos for Change can also enter the national Videos for Change competition which can amplify students’ voice to a global audience. The 2020 competition will open for submissions in June.

Use this handout to help teams to focus on one or two causes or effects of their chosen social issue or problem. Ask them to brainstorm the causes of the social issue and write them in the roots of the tree - they help the problem to grow. Then brainstorm the effects of the social issue and write them in the branches of the tree. This brainstorm is a great way to start a conversation about the effectiveness of addressing the effects of a problem versus the causes and will help to make sure that their video has a clear message and does not overwhelm their audience.

Videos for Change is a special initiative developed by High Resolves, a recognised leader in the design and delivery of learning experiences in citizenship and leadership. Click here to find out more about the broad range of programs and resources we offer.
High Resolves’ learning experiences are transformational because they draw on proven design principles from learning science, behavioural economics, social psychology, and neuroscience. Based on our 10+ years experience in the field, we have found that achieving mastery of global competencies must involve peak experiences that shift student’s thoughts and feelings about the world. These shifts must then be hardwired into long-term memory through repeated practice and application in the real world. Videos for Change is our signature real world application exercise.

We want this opportunity to be available to all teenagers, and to have a diverse representation of the voice of young people across the world. That’s why Videos for Change is completely free to enter.
Videos for Change is aligned with several subjects in the National Curriculum, and provides an exciting avenue to explicitly address the General Capabilities:

For schools seeking further support, we also offer professionally-facilitated Videos for Change workshops that we deliver in schools, and professional development training for teachers interested in running Videos for Change with their students.
This year we will also be offering schools the opportunity to run their own local Videos for Change challenge with their own personal digital platform. Please contact us for more information or to see how we can help you embed this powerful opportunity into your school.
